ORGANIC MULCHING

Leaves are beneficial even if they shed from the trees. This can be used as manure to the crops. The plant biomass which falls over the soil gets decomposed and forms a layer of mulch over the surface of the soil. This mulch helps in retaining the moisture of the soil and provides an optimum environment for the soil microbes and other soil organisms.

It always act as a habitat for the earthworms in the soil thereby making the soil more fertile for the growth of crops. This biomass on further decomposing provides nutrients like carbon and nitrogen to the plants. Each 1 kg of biomass on decomposition is capable of retaining 4lit of water in the soil. This type of organic mulching inhibits the growth if weeds effectively.
